David Reis — Senior Product Designer & Engineer

David is a true design all-rounder and there's very few people I say that about. He's not constrained by dogmatic attachment to any particular approach: he can produce pixel-perfect, beautiful designs and prototypes, but the next minute he's able to flip and produce lo-fi wobbly-lined sketches with engineers to draw out the functional nitty gritty of how something complex has to work.

Worked with David on some key UX challenges around presenting data to internal users to enable them to have a better understanding of the area of Supply Chain that they worked in. Focussing on enabling them to manage by exception and not by rule. David was great at understanding the roles of the users, how they would be interacting, alongside the constraints and nuance of the roles and systems, and working with the Product and Engineering teams to support on building meaningful UIs that provide value to a wide range of users.

I worked alongside David for 2 years, he was pivotal to creating and setting up teams to maintain the design system, all whilst working on various product work at the same time! David is a good team player and good fun to work with! His exceptional ability to balance strategic design leadership with hands-on execution helped establish robust design processes that I bet continue to benefit the team to this day.

During my time working with David, he took creative lead on a number of high-profile projects. His responsibilities included speaking and presenting to high-profile clients, gather business requirements and understanding client needs, creating personas and writing user stories, wireframing ideas and developing them into high-fidelity prototypes, working and most of the time leading our development team to turn these into beautiful websites.

I had the pleasure of working with David when we were in the same team at Ocado. He has a natural instinct for good design. Everything he does is simple, easy to understand and visually pleasing. He is thorough and detailed in his work, while clear in his thinking and communication. I found him to be very easy to talk to and work with. David has deep understanding of UX best practices, and as a senior designer is able to successfully guide both software engineers and product managers on the best way to deliver features to customers. Owing to his technical background, discussing different implementation constraints or opportunities with David was always painless. He would quickly grasp the subject matter at hand and draw pragmatic conclusions to get the best result for the customer in the most efficient way.

David is someone you can always rely on – no matter how complex the project, he consistently delivers results. He’s great at managing both B2B and B2C projects, especially those that require a strong business understanding and a good grasp of user needs. He communicates clearly with the team and does an excellent job presenting ideas to teammates and stakeholders. Aside from his professional skills, David brings a lot of positive energy to the team.

David played a key role in defining our design language and also found classy and efficient ways to solve complex interaction and visual design problems left by our previous designer. David was able to build rapid prototypes for user testing and high quality designs in a quick and iterative fashion. He worked closely with our Product Manager to ensure all the features were designed and built to a high standard.
